Are you physically fit, interested in the outdoors and fire fighting? Do you want to make a contribution to conservation? Our team is currently capped to a maximum of 40 members, but we're always keen to hear from people interested in joining the team. RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Recruits must be aged 16 or over and will need to pass a police check, medical check and pack test. Outdoor experience in the High Country is an advantage but not essential.
To begin the process, contact the team via the link below to advise your interest. Depending on team numbers, you would be sent our HCFT Trainee Firefighter Application Form to fill out, which outlines some basic information about you. You would then be contacted by one of our Recruitment team, where your interest, background and questions would be discussed. Following the initial discussions, you may be invited to attend team trainings, where you can learn what the team does and how it works.
Before being considered for a permanent position with the High Country Fire Team, you would need to attend 10 team trainings, complete a Police background check and pass a pack test. After mutual agreement, you would need to complete the Fire and Emergency New Zealand application forms, which may include a doctors medical assessment. Upon completion, an active firefighting position in the team and contract with FENZ may be offered to those who wish to continue.
Team members are trained as rural fire fighter to New Zealand Qualification Standards.
